AI companions can feel unusually personal. You might talk about your relationships, work, fears, fantasies, health, finances, or details you would never post publicly. That makes privacy worth checking before you start treating any AI companion like a private journal.
The key question is not simply, "Are my chats private?" A better question is: What happens to the information I share after I send it?
Here are seven things to check before sharing anything sensitive with an AI companion.
1. What data does the service collect?
Start with the privacy policy, not the marketing copy. Look for the categories of information the service says it collects.
Depending on the platform, that can include account details, device and usage information, payment information, cookies or analytics, and the conversations themselves. If you use voice, images, or character-creation tools, check how those inputs are treated too.
For example, our current Privacy Policy lists chat interactions among the personal data we collect and says those messages are used for providing and improving chatbot services.
That distinction matters: a conversation being hidden from other users does not necessarily mean the platform itself does not process or retain it.
2. How are your conversations used?
Look for explicit language about why chat data is processed.
Useful questions include:
- Is chat data used only to provide the conversation, or also to improve the service?
- Does the policy say anything about AI model training or optimization?
- Are there separate rules for character-creator content versus private chats?
- Can you opt out of any secondary uses?
Avoid assuming that every type of content is governed by the same rule. A platform may have different terms for private conversations, public character definitions, uploaded media, and analytics data.
Our Privacy Policy says personal data can be used to provide and improve our services, including chatbot functionality and AI optimization. Our separate Creator Agreement says Creator Content is not used to train, fine-tune, or develop AI or machine-learning models. Those statements cover different categories of data, which is why reading the exact policy language matters.

3. Who can see your chats?
"Private" can mean several different things.
A useful privacy check asks whether conversations are visible to:
- other users;
- the person who created a public character;
- platform employees or contractors under defined circumstances;
- third-party service providers;
- authorities when legally required.
Our public FAQ says conversations are kept private from other users and that character creators cannot access conversations other users have with their characters. That is useful information about user-to-user visibility, but it should not be interpreted as a claim that no one involved in operating the service can ever process the data.
In other words, non-public does not mean invisible to the service itself. We still process information as described in our Privacy Policy to operate, secure, and improve the service.
There's an important qualification in our Terms of Use: section 7 treats User Contributions, including messages, as non-confidential and non-proprietary. We say we use commercially reasonable efforts to keep content marked Private non-public, but the Terms also state that users have no expectation of privacy in User Contributions and disclaim liability for disclosures. That is broader than the FAQ's assurance about visibility to other users and character creators. Read both before sharing sensitive information.
Our Privacy Policy says data may be shared with service providers used for functions such as payment processing, hosting, and analytics, and may also be disclosed for legal compliance or transferred as part of a business transaction. It also states that we do not sell personal data.
4. How is the data protected?
Security language deserves careful reading because similar-sounding claims can mean very different things.
Look for whether a service describes encryption in transit, encryption at rest, end-to-end encryption, access controls, or other security measures. Do not treat those terms as interchangeable.
Our Privacy Policy says we implement industry-standard security measures and that chat interactions may be encrypted in storage and transit for security purposes. It does not state that chats are end-to-end encrypted, so that stronger claim should not be inferred.
No online service can promise zero risk. Our policy also explicitly notes that no internet transmission is completely secure.

5. How long is your data kept, and can you delete it?
A strong privacy review should answer two separate questions: how long data is retained and what happens when you ask for deletion.
Look for a specific retention period where one is provided, but do not assume every category of data follows the same schedule. Some information may need to be retained for legal, security, billing, or backup purposes.
Our Privacy Policy says personal data is retained for as long as necessary to provide our services and meet legal obligations. It also says chat logs and other user-generated content may be deleted upon request.
The policy further describes access, correction, deletion, and other rights for users covered by laws such as GDPR and CCPA, with requests directed to MyBot support.
If deletion controls matter to you, verify the current process before sharing highly sensitive information rather than assuming that deleting a visible chat instantly removes every associated copy everywhere.

6. What is the age policy?
Age restrictions are part of privacy and safety, especially for products built around highly personal conversations.
Check the Terms of Use rather than relying on app-store labels or assumptions. Our terms state that the service is offered to users 18 years of age or older, and our Privacy Policy says the service is not intended for children under 18.
Parents, guardians, and younger users should not assume every AI companion platform has the same age requirement. Check the current policy of the specific service you are considering.
7. What third parties are involved?
AI products rarely operate in isolation. Hosting, payments, analytics, model providers, and other infrastructure can involve outside companies.
Before sharing sensitive information, check whether the privacy policy explains:
- the categories of service providers involved;
- the reasons data may be shared;
- whether data is sold;
- whether third-party services have their own policies;
- what happens in a merger or acquisition.
Our Privacy Policy says we may share data with third-party vendors for payment processing, hosting, and analytics, among other stated circumstances, while stating that we do not sell personal data.
A simple AI companion privacy checklist
Before getting personal with an AI companion, ask:
- What information does the platform collect?
- Are my chats used to provide the service, improve it, train models, or some combination?
- Who can access my conversations?
- What security and encryption claims does the company actually make?
- How long is my information retained?
- Can I request deletion, and are there exceptions?
- Which third parties may receive or process data?
- What is the minimum age?
- Does the policy explain my privacy rights and how to exercise them?
- Has the policy changed since I last checked?
If a service cannot answer the questions that matter to you, treat that uncertainty as part of your decision.

How to share less without giving up the experience
Privacy is not all-or-nothing. You can still enjoy an AI companion while limiting what you disclose.
Avoid sharing passwords, authentication codes, government identification numbers, full payment-card details, or other credentials. Consider removing names, addresses, employer details, and other identifiers when they are not necessary to the conversation. For especially sensitive medical, legal, financial, or personal matters, remember that an AI companion is not a substitute for a confidential relationship with an appropriately qualified professional.
It is also worth periodically reviewing old conversations and the platform's latest privacy settings and policies. AI products change quickly; your privacy assumptions should not depend on what a service said a year ago.

How MyBot handles privacy today
Our FAQ says conversations are private from other users and that creators of public characters cannot see the conversations other users have with those characters.
Our Privacy Policy also says chat interactions are collected to provide and improve chatbot services; data can be shared with service providers and in specified legal or business circumstances; personal data is not sold; and chat logs and other user-generated content may be deleted upon request.
Those are the commitments and disclosures in our current published policies. They should be read with the full policy rather than reduced to a blanket promise that every piece of data is inaccessible, anonymous, or instantly deletable.
The simplest way to think about it is: your conversations are not public to other users or character creators, but that is not a promise of absolute confidentiality. We process conversation data under our Privacy Policy, and our Terms of Use contain broader provisions governing User Contributions, including messages.
Before sharing personal information, read the current MyBot Privacy Policy and decide whether its practices match your own comfort level.
